LSU Coach Ed Orgeron Says ‘Most’ Of His Players Have Contracted COVID-19

While talking to reporters earlier this week LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron said that he believed most of his players had contracted COVID-19 at some point during the pandemic. “Not all of our players, but most of our players have caught it,” Orgeron said. “I think that hopefully, they won’t catch it again, and hopefully they’re not out for games.”

When asked for clarification Oregon said, “Hopefully that once you catch it, you don’t get it again. I’m not a doctor. I think they have that 90-day window, so most of the players that have caught it, we do feel like they’ll be eligible for games.”

This can be viewed as either a good thing or a terrible thing depending on your perspective. So far there has been no scientific consensus on whether or not you can contract COVID-19 a second time and , if so, how long the period is after you get it the first time that you can contract it again.

So far, the numbers of positive tests coming out of these football camps have been generally low with the higher numbers being in states that have been hit the worst such as Texas or Florida. LSU is planning on resuming the season in a few weeks as a part of the SEC, and it has been rumored that some of their blue-chip players who opted out earlier this year like defensive tackle Tyler Shelvin may return to the team. “We’d take him back, and we want him back,” Orgeron said. “If he doesn’t come back, then we wish him the best. If not, like any member of our family, we’ll take him back.”
