Kyrie Irving Scores 47 Points, Celtics Beat Mavericks For 16th Straight Win [VIDEO]

Kyrie Irving knocked down an incredible 47 points on Monday night to lift the Boston Celtics to a 110-102 overtime victory over the Mavericks in Dallas, the team’s 16th consecutive win.

Even Mavs fans were chanting “MVP!” following Irving’s amazing performance. The point guard scored ten of his points in overtime, and added six assists and three rebounds. Irving also shot 16-of-22, including 5-of-7 from three-point range.

The Celtics (16-2) lead the Eastern Conference. Boston’s 16-game winning streak is tied for the fourth-longest in franchise history (the team’s longest win streak is 19 games). The team lost Gordon Hayward to a horrible ankle injury to Cleveland on opening night.

Five of the Celtics’ wins during this streak have been comebacks after trailing by at least 13 points.

”For us it’s just about battling back when teams get a comfortable rhythm, whether it’d be in the first half or the second half,” Irving said. ”As a group we continue just to stick together throughout anything and everything.”

Irving stole the ball from Dirk Nowitzki and fed Jayson Tatum for an alley-oop that hung on the rim for a second before dropping in with 1:01 remaining to tie it up at 96.

Harrison Barnes scored 31 points and Wesley Matthews added 18 for Dallas. Jaylen Brown had 22 for Boston.

Mavericks guard J.J. Barea won the NBA Cares Community Assist Award for October for the humanitarian work he did in the wake of Hurricane Maria in his native Puerto Rico. He received the award at halftime. Barea has delivered more than 100,000 pounds of supplies to the territory, and has raised nearly $750,000 in funds through his own efforts and a fund drive.

The Celtics next visit Miami on Wednesday, when the Mavericks visit Memphis for the team’s third meeting of the season.
