Luckily, Kraska, who was face-down in the street after being shot, remained alert in the ambulance and a surgery team was on stand by when he arrived. According to multiple tweets from colleagues and friends, the surgery has gone well and they expect the CBS News 8 sports director to recover from his injuries.

Soon after the shooting, the police released the picture of the prime suspect: 54-year-old Mike Montana. The media quickly jumped on this opportunity and plastered the photograph of the alleged gunman all over social media.

Neighbors, who spotted Montana’s van at the El Cajon residence, called the police immediately. And following a seemingly endless standoff — which resulted in the evacuation of the surrounding homes — the suspect emerged with his hands raised, surrendering to the San Diego SWAT officers.

Police believe that Kyle Kraska was targeted, but they have not released any information regarding the motive.
