Kobe Bryant Remembered In Oscars’ In Memoriam,’ Spike Lee Wears Kobe-Inspired Suit

As family, friends and fans still mourn the loss of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, as well as the other victims of the horrific helicopter crash, the world of entertainment has shared their grief at various award shows throughout this awards season. The Academy Awards on Sunday night was no different.

Bryant won an Oscar in 2018 for his best animated short film Dear Basketball, which is based on a poem Bryant wrote when he announced his retirement from basketball.

Kobe Bryant was included in the “In Memoriam” at the Oscars.

Director Spike Lee wore a Kobe-inspired suit. The custom purple-and-gold suit donned the numbers “2” and “4” on the lapels and a complete “24” on the back. He also wore a pair of Nike Kobe 9 Elites.

Lee and Bryant worked together in 2009 on a documentary called Kobe Doin’ Work, which followed Bryant for a day in the 2007-2008 season.

Former NFL wide receiver Matthew Cherry, who won an Oscar for short animated film, ended his acceptance speech with a nod to Bryant and dedicated his win to him.
