JR Smith Wants Out Of Cleveland, Tweets That Team Gave Him Option To Stay
“They don’t want me here, so they obviously know,” said Cleveland Cavaliers guard JR Smith, when asked if he wanted a trade.
JR Wants A Trade Out Of Cleveland
Disgruntled over playing time, Smith replied “Yeah,” to a reporter on Thursday who asked if he wanted a trade out of Cleveland. Smith tweeted out amidst the tension, denying that he is unhappy.
“False!” he tweeted. “They gave me the option an I chose to stay!”
Smith is not currently in the playing rotation, averaging just 2.5 points and one rebound. Smith and the front office have allegedly discussed potentially taking a leave of absence until a trade can be found, although he refutes this in the recent tweet above.
The NBA does not permit players to voice trade requests publicly. The NBA is currently deliberating on whether or not to fine Smith.
