John Collins Stays With Hawks On a Five-Year, $125 Million Deal

Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins has agreed to a five-year, $125 million deal to stay with the team.

Collins is coming off a season where he averaged 17.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game for a Hawks team that made a surprising run to the Eastern Conference Finals before being eliminated in six games by the eventual champion Milwaukee Bucks.

He had turned down an extension worth approximately $90 million before the start of the 2020-21 season in an attempt to earn more the following summer in restricted free agency.

He was expected to get offers from several teams, with the Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs showing significant interest. Once those three teams used their cap space elsewhere, the path was cleared for Collins to return to the team that drafted him with the 19th overall pick back in 2017, who improved their original offer after his contributions towards one of the best seasons in franchise history.
