The New York Jets placed wide receiver Eric Decker on injured reserve with a torn rotator cuff on Wednesday, the team announced.
Decker, 29, has missed the Jets’ past two games. He is expected to require surgery, and will likely miss the remainder of the season, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.
Decker has two years remaining on the five-year, $36.25 million deal he signed with the Jets in 2014. In the three games he has played this seasons, he caught nine passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns. His absence has underscored the immense setback the Jets have undergone offensively in 2016.
The wideout was injured in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills, but he played in every offensive snap the following week against the Kansas City Chiefs. Decker caught only one pass in that game and later told team officials that he had aggravated the injury. He had a much stronger season in 2015, when he had 80 catches for 1,027 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The Jets signed cornerback Nick Marshall from the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad to fill Decker’s roster spot.
Marshall’s signing seems to suggest the Jets are concerned about the availability of cornerbacks Darrelle Revis (hamstring) and Darryl Roberts (shoulder) for Monday night’s road game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Decker was the perfect complementary receiver in offensive coordinator Chan Gailey’s system. Now, that responsibility lies with Quincy Enunwa, who has 27 catches for 294 yards and a touchdown this year.
The Jets are coming off a 31-13 road loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday, and are currently 17th in the NFL in passing at 247.4 yards per game.
