Jaguars’ Resurgence Continues As Lawrence Powers Late Comeback
On Monday night, quarterback Trevor Lawrence led the Jacksonville Jaguars to a 31-28 comeback win over the Kansas City Chiefs with a wild, game-winning 1-yard touchdown run. In the chaotic seconds, Lawerence tripped over his lineman and fell twice with less than 30 seconds left. He scrambled back up, dodged the defenders, and dove into the end zone to seal the victory. The win extended Jacksonville’s streak to three wins, tying them with the Indianapolis Colts for first place in the AFC South.
The dramatic finish underscored how far the Jaguars have come under Head Coach Liam Coen. After a strong start to the season, Jacksonville’s offense found its groove, with Lawrence showing poise and persistence in clutch moments. This has been their best start to a season since 2007. This is their first year under Coen and General Manager James Gladstone. After a 4-13 season in 2024 under Doug Pederson, the team is showing quite the turnaround.
A big reason for this turnaround has been Lawrence. He has thrown 1,066 yards and six touchdowns through five games. Running back Travis Etienne Jr. has added more than 400 yards on the ground. The Jaguars have averaged approximately 25 points per game, ranking them among the league’s better offenses. Rather than relying solely on Lawrence’s arm, Coen’s system has emphasized versatility, mixing quick passes and creative runs that keep defenses off balance.
Just as important has been the team’s renewed chemistry and confidence. After last season’s struggles under Pederson, the Jaguars are playing with a new sense of trust. Lawrence’s leadership has set the tone, and younger players have stepped into bigger roles with composure, such as Heisman winner Travis Hunter. Each win has built belief inside the locker room that this group can compete to win the AFC.
