The Harlem Globetrotters are one of the most dazzling sights in basketball. Combining pure athleticism with intense skill, they seem more magic than the Orlando Magic or the Washington Wizards. They’ve tipped off at some of the biggest arenas, going around the world and showing their creativity and flair. There’s a reason why they’ve been popular for generations. Who wouldn’t want to head out and see one of the most famous teams put on a show that’s fun for the whole family?
Fans have come out in cities like Cincinnati, San Antonio and Oakland as the Globetrotters expand their tours to new bounds each year. With high-flying dunks, dribbles that seem to defy physics, and shots that will drop your jaw, the Globetrotters bring out the love for the sport of basketball in everyone.
In 1926, Abe Saperstein assembled a squad in Chicago to show off the best basketball had to offer. The next year they moved to New York. By 1934, they were all over the country. Athletes like Wilt Chamberlain, Connie Hawkins, Nat Clifton and many more came to be intertwined with the team and pushed basketball to its limits.
Despite being a basketball team, the Globetrotters have lived up to their name. For example, in 1959, during the height of the Cold War, the Globetrotters and Wilt Chamberlain went out to Moscow and put the game on display for cheering crowds.
