Giants GM Dave Gettleman diagnosed with lymphoma
The New York Giants announced on Tuesday that general manager Dave Gettleman has been diagnosed with lymphoma.
The 67-year-old GM — who joined the Giants in December after spending four seasons with the Carolina Panthers — said the cancer diagnosis came during a medical checkup, and that he will begin treatment soon.
“Recently, I underwent an annual physical, during which it was discovered I have lymphoma,” Gettleman said a statement. “Over the past week, I have undergone more testing to determine the course of treatment, which is scheduled to start in the very near future.”
Before working with the Panthers, Gettleman spent 15 years (1998-2012) with the Giants, working in several front office roles.

Among the draft selections the Gettleman-led Giants made this year are Penn State running back Saquon Barkley (the No. 2 overall pick) and Texas guard Will Hernandez, a second-round pick.
The Giants had one of their worst seasons in decades in 2017 after finishing 3-13. Head coach Ben McAdoo and general manager Jerry Reese were fired before the end of the regular season and were replaced by former Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur and Gettleman, respectively.
On Tuesday, the Giants signed first-year punter Taylor Symmank, a Texas Tech product. The team also recently cut cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and receiver Brandon Marshall, and also traded defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
