The brother of New York Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins on Wednesday was charged with aggravated manslaughter after a dead body was discovered at the NFL star’s home in Fair Lawn, New Jersey.
William Jenkins was arrested for killing Roosevelt Rene, a 25-year-old friend of the former’s family who he Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office stated had been residing at the house. Rene’s body was found on Tuesday and a homicide investigation was quickly opened. The cornerback’s brother was named as a person of interest in the case early on Wednesday. The prosecutor’s office stressed that Williams Jenkins remains purely accused, and is “presumed innocent” until proven guilty.

According to ESPN, Janoris Jenkins was in Florida at the time of the body’s discovery but was soon made aware of the probe. The Giants — whose minicamp ended earlier this month — reportedly said in a statement they “are aware of and monitoring the situation.”

William Jenkins is reportedly being held in Ontario County, New York for a parole violation and is awaiting possible extradition to New Jersey, ESPN said. According to TMZ, could be sentenced to anywhere from 10 to 30 years in prison should he be convicted.
About midway through the 2017 NFL season, the Giants indefinitely suspended Janoris Jenkins for violating team rules. The 29-year-old Pro Bowl cornerback is entering his third season with the Giants.
