Veteran cornerback Cameron Sutton was suspended for eight games for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. Sutton began his career with the Steelers before joining the Lions for the 2023-2024 season. He resigned with Pittsburgh on a one-year deal this offseason. Detroit released the veteran in March after a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of domestic battery through strangulation. Sutton won’t appeal his suspension.
Authorities have been searching for Sutton since March 7 after a “verbal altercation turned physical.” Sutton fled his Lutz, Florida, home after allegedly assaulting a female victim, leaving her battered and with bruises to the head, upper body and neck.
Sutton finally turned himself into Tampa authorities on March 31. “After weeks of evading law enforcement, this man has finally made the right choice to turn himself in,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Cronister in a statement. “My thoughts are with this woman as she continues to heal from this man’s gruesome actions.”
The corner started every game for the Lions in 2023, recording 65 combined tackles, six pass deflections and one interception while recording eight combined tackles during the Lions’ Cinderella postseason run. Despite being out roughly half a season, Sutton returned to Pittsburgh for a second stint.

Pittsburgh selected the former Tennessee Volunteer in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft. In his first tenure in black and gold, Sutton started 39 games and recorded 168 combined tackles, eight interceptions and five forced fumbles while defending 38 passes.
According to the NFL, Sutton will be available for reinstatement on October 29, following their game against the Giants.
The secondary will still be headlined by Minkah Fitzpatrick, Donte Jackson, Deshaun Elliot and Joey Porter Jr. Grayson Arnold is expected to be the slot corner during Sutton’s suspension.
