The Philadelphia Flyers have now shut out two teams in a row thanks to backup goalie Michal Neuvirth, who is replacing starting goal Steve Mason who is out for unspecified family reasons. Mason does not need to worry because of Neuvirth dominated the Chicago Blackhawks last night, stopping 30 shots on goal and leading the Flyers to victory winning 3-0.
The shutout marks Neuvirth’s ninth shutout for his career and a shutout streak of 132 minutes, 5 seconds since relieving Mason. “The more I play, the better I feel and the more confident I get,” Neuvirth said. “I was relaxed, I just had fun and I trusted myself.”
The three goals that the flyers scored came from Sam Gagner and team captain Claude Giroux and Matt Read scoring in the third period to seal the deal for the Flyers to bring their record to 2-1-1 with 5 team points.
Other events that occurred during this game included heckling from Flyers fans towards Patrick Kane chanting “she said no!”, who is currently under investigation for sexually assaulting a woman in upstate New York. Before the game, the Flyers honored hockey great Kimmo Timonen in retiring his number.
