Smith had also been charged with aggravated battery, although that count was ultimately dismissed. Last week, TMZ Sports reported that Smith could be released from prison early for good behavior. The outlet shared this video in March:
According to ESPN, prosecutors stated Smith’s sister’s boyfriend was the victim of the attack, which came after the latter attempted to meddle in an argument between the cornerback and his sister. ESPN reported that prosecutors claimed Smith “stomped on the man’s head.”

The Raiders cut Smith just one day prior to his official guilty plea.
Smith, a second-round draft pick out of Utah in 2009, has logged 14 interceptions, 424 tackles and one touchdown in his career. He signed a four-year, $38 million deal with Oakland as a free agent in 2016. His performance on the field dropped significantly after that. In 2017, T.J. Carrie beat him for the starting cornerback position.
Smith has also played for the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins.
