Ex-NBA Player, Texas Tech & Big3 Star Andre Emmett Dies At 37 After Being Shot In Dallas

Andre Emmett, a former NBA and Texas Tech player, died Monday after being shot in the Dallas area. He was 37.

Dallas police said Emmett — who most recently played in Ice Cube‘s Big3 league — was killed after two men approached him while the former NBA shooting guard was sitting in his car in front of his home. One of the two suspects drew a gun a fight began and Emmett ultimately escaped but was shot. A person passing by saw Emmett and called 911. The former NBA star was then transported to a local hospital and was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

While playing with Texas Tech in 2004, 6-foot-5 Emmett was named a Consensus first-team All-American after he averaged 20.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game under head coach Bob Knight. During his time in the NBA, Emmet played for the Memphis Grizzlies from 2004 to 2005 and in 2012 had a brief stint with the then-New Jersey Nets. The Seattle SuperSonics selected Emmett as a second-round draft pick in 2004 and he was quickly traded to the Grizzlies.
