Ex-Jets CB Darrelle Revis Announces Retirement After 11 Years; Players React On Twitter

Darrelle Revis‘s time in the NFL has come to an end.

Darrelle Revis Retires From NFL At 33

The 33-year-old Pro Bowl cornerback announced Wednesday morning that he is retiring after 11 seasons, during which he played for four teams: the New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs cut Revis in February. The cornerback helped lead the Patriots to a Super Bowl victory over the Seahawks after the 2014 season. He was sidelined for much of last season but eventually signed a two-year deal with the Chiefs in November. Revis — a 2007 first-round draft pick (No. 14) out of Pittsburgh — played for the Jets twice, from 2007-2012 and from 2015-16.  Revis thanked his past coaches, teammates and “mentors” in his retirement announcement.

Three other NFL cornerbacks — Darius Slay, Jalen Ramsey and Logan Ryan — all congratulated Revis on his retirement.

Ryan called Revis “one of the most competitive teammates I ever had” and “one of the best businessmen, he knew his worth.”

A seven-time Pro Bowler, Revis finishes his career with 497 tackles, 29 interceptions, six forced fumbles and three touchdowns. His best NFL season came in 2009.

Revis also became involved in some controversies during his career. In early 2017, the cornerback was charged with four felonies and arrested after an altercation in Pittsburgh. He is the second Jets player to retire this year after center Nick Mangold called it quits in April following an 11-year career with the team.
