Eric Bieniemy Becomes The Commanders’ New Offensive Coordinator – But He Deserves So Much More Than That

You have to wonder what more Eric Bieniemy needs to do to earn himself a head coaching gig – but clearly, he will have to prove himself once more.

The 53-year-old has served as the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator since 2018 – having a ton of success.

The Chiefs have had the top-ranked offense in terms of total yards three times under Bieniemy.

The team has also reached the AFC championship game for five straight seasons, with two Super Bowl wins.

Most importantly, Bieniemy has helped develop perhaps the new GOAT quarterback one day – Patrick Mahomes.

Bieniemy has interviewed 17 times with 16 different teams since 2019, according to Time.

And yet, he still hasn’t landed a head coaching job.

The reason why? He does not interview well, reports allege.

But the argument is starting to become more ridiculous especially when we look at some of the most disastrous head coaches in the past few years.

Apparently, Adam Gase and Joe Judge did well enough on their interviews with the New York Jets and New York Giants respectively to get head coaching jobs.

They were both fired after two seasons and will both go down as one of the worst head coaches in their franchises’ history.

But hey, Gase and Juge had killer interviews.

Now, Bieniemy rightfully so is looking for a fresh start and has taken an offensive coordinator job with the Washington Redskins.

He will have to prove it with perhaps Taylor Heinicke as his quarterback or another veteran free agent such as Jimmy Garoppolo or Ryan Tannehill.

But if he can improve the Redskins’ subpar offense – there’s no reason why he shouldn’t get a head coaching job the next year.

Maybe Bieniemy won’t have the leadership qualities or fails for whatever reason. And maybe his niche will be best served as an offensive coordinator.

But we’ll never know until a team finally gives him a shot to lead a team.

There’s a big upside with Bieniemy and it’s worth a shot regardless of how he interviews.
