Dr. Anthony Fauci Suggests That NFL Adopts Bubble City For 2020 Season

After suggesting that the MLB season should conclude before the end of October earlier this week, Dr. Anthony Fauci gave his thoughts on the NFL and their 2020 season.

In speaking with CNN, Fauci said that the NFL should adopt a similar ‘bubble’ city type structure that the MLS and NBA is using for the conclusion of their seasons. “Unless players are essentially in a bubble – insulated from the community and they are tested nearly every day – it would be very hard to see how football is able to be played this fall. If there is a second wave, which is certainly a possibility and which would be complicated by the predictable flu season, football may not happen this year.”

Fauci said back in May that the best way to stop the spread of the virus, particularly in sports, is by eliminating or minimizing close contact by athletes and with football, there is obviously an immense amount of close contact.

Where the NFL would have its bubble community, if they were to go down this route, would be extremely interesting given the large number of players on NFL rosters, not to mention coaches and other staff members that help oil the machine that is an NFL team.

The NFL has said that the plan for the 2020 season is to start September 10 with the Texans visiting the Chiefs. No fans will be present but the door is still open for fans being allowed at games in a limited amount as the season continues.
