Dr. Anthony Fauci Suggests That MLB Season Should Conclude By End Of October

Major Leagues Baseball and Major League Baseball Players Association continue in talks as to when the 2020 season will start and how long the season will be in terms of games. The league has been seeking a shorter season that ends prior to November 1, the players’ union has sought a longer season with the World Series to be played toward the end of November. On Tuesday, the league might have gotten a suggestion that will greatly help them in negotiations.

While speaking with the L.A. Times Tuesday, Dr. Anthony Fauci gave his thoughts on what the league should do for this season. “If the question is time, I would try to keep it in the core summer months and end it not with the way we play the World Series, until the end of October when it’s cold. … This virus is one that keeps fooling us,” he said. “Under most circumstances — but we don’t know for sure here — viruses do better when the weather starts to get colder and people start spending more time inside, as opposed to outside. The community has a greater chance of getting infected.”

Fauci also noted that he would attend a game – only if there was limited capacity in the ballpark and everyone in attendance was required to wear a mask.

Fauci’s words could help the league in negotiations immensely, as both the owners and MLBPA have seemed to be deadlocked in negotiations, with numerous notable players tweeting, “Tell Us Where and When,” basically calling for MLB to draft a schedule.

MLB could declare that there will be a 50 game season, in which event they won’t have to get the approval of the players, if there is no decision reached.
