Dodgers’ Yasiel Puig Nimbly Avoids Tag From SS Jean Segura
The Los Angeles Dodgers (4-4, 2nd in NL West) Cuban outfielder, 25, roped a ball to left field in the fifth inning of Tuesday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and then decided to sprint for second base.
Puig would have been called out, but he cleverly fooled Arizona shortstop Jean Segura by faking a reach for the bag with his right hand after sliding, and then grabbing it with his left. From one angle, it almost looked like Puig grabbed Segura’s glove as he initially slid past seventh.
Puig then gave a point to the umpire for recognizing his trickery. The play led to a 3:51 minute review, but it finally stood as called.
The Diamondbacks (3-5, 4th in NL West) won the game 4-2 at Dodger Stadium. The two teams will play each other again at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday.
