Dana Vollmer, Olympic Swimmer, Reveals How To Diet With Gluten Intolerance | EXCLUSIVE

Dana Vollmer, U.S. Olympic Swimmer, On… by uSports

Olympic gold medalist Dana Vollmer was originally believed to have Long QT Syndrome: a life-threatening heart condition that causes the heart to erratically beat after intense activity, she did not believe she would ever get to swim again. It was eventually deemed fit for her to return, as long as there was a defibrillator kept poolside. If that wasn’t enough of an obstacle, she also happens to be gluten intolerant.

So she had to dramatically alter her Olympic diet. “So having to take all of that out of my diet definitely took a lot of foods out,” Volmer told uSports. “But I’ve found so many different foods that I love. Quinoa is one of them.” How does she keep her diet during meets? “I’ll definitely be packing some food with me. I always try to travel with it, and luckily whenever we go to sporting events, they tend to have pretty good array of food for us. But definitely lots of fruit and vegetables and rice and [I] just eat as healthy as I can.”
