D-backs Trade Anderson, Hill To Brewers For Segura, Wagner, As Part of Five-Player Deal

The Arizona Diamondbacks are looking for ways to boost their lineup, and one way was by getting former NL All-Star shortstop Jean Segura as part of a five-player trade with the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday.

Segura is a career .266 hitter with 96 steals since making his MLB debut in 2012 with the Anaheim Angels.

The D-backs also acquired right-handed pitcher Tyler Wagner and gave up pitcher Chase Anderson, second-baseman Aaron Hill, minor league shortstop Isan Diaz and cash as well in exchange.

Arizona went 79-83 last season, then signed free agent ace Zack Greinke and traded for All-Star pitcher Shelby Miller.

The team was reportedly seeking “a little bit more offense,” according to Arizona general manager Dave Stewart. Stewart also said having extra middle infielders could lead to more trade possibilities.

The Diamondbacks ranked second among NL teams in terms of scoring last year.

Of course, Segura’s departure from the Brewers leaves room for top prospect, Orlando Arcia, to make the big league roster very soon. The 21-year-old is one of the top shortstop prospects in the minors. He’s become notable for his advanced defense and hit .307 with eight home runs, 69 RBIs and 25 stolen bases with Double-A Biloxi last season.

“In Chase Anderson and Aaron Hill, we are adding two proven major league contributors who will impact our team this year,” Brewers general manager David Stearns said in a statement.

Anderson, 28, was 6-6 with a 4.30 ERA in 27 starts last season. Hill, 33, has played 11 seasons in the majors and has hit .429 with four home runs in 10 career games at Miller Park.

Rookie Diaz, 19, hit .360 with 13 home runs and 51 RBIs at rookie-level Missoula. He was also the Pioneer League MVP.
