Aden Holloway Arrested With One-Pound Of Marijuana Just A Day After Selection Sunday

Alabama guard Aden Holloway was arrested on a felony drug charge.

Holloway was caught with over a pound of marijuana. In Alabama, only medical marijuana is legal. Usually, first-time marijuana charges are considered a misdemeanor. However, the large amount of marijuana that Holloway had made it a felony.

His bond was set at $5,000. He faces up to 10 years in prison and up to a $15,000 fine.

Holloway is a junior guard. This season he averaged 17 points and four assists. He was Alabama’s second-leading scorer behind Labaron Philon.

Just a day before Holloway’s arrest, Alabama received the news they had made the March Madness tournament. They received the No. 4 seed on March 15, also known as Selection Sunday.

Holloway was released on bond less than an hour after he was taken to jail. The specifics of his bond have not been released. Sometimes a condition of a bond is that you cannot leave the state before your trial date. If that was the case for Holloway, he wouldn’t be able to participate in Alabama’s March Madness game at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida.

Winning games in the March Madness tournament becomes harder for Alabama without their second leading scorer. However, they still have plenty of talent. Philon is their best player and could help make up for not having Holloway. Meanwhile, Amari Allen is a huge contributor for Alabama on defense.

Despite having plenty of talented players, Alabama will still hope that Holloway is eligible to play. Sometimes, when an athlete is put on trial they are given special privileges, like being allowed to travel, just not being allowed to step away from the team’s training location, hotel or venue.

Alabama will play Hofstra on March 20 in the first round of March Madness.
