Cowboys’ Brandon Aubrey Smashes Kicking Records Despite Lions Loss

The Dallas Cowboys lost to the Detroit Lions, 44-30, on Thursday night. However, kicker Brandon Aubrey stole the spotlight by breaking several NFL kicking records.

Aubrey made five field goals in a game for the second time in his career. Three of them came from 55 yards or more, making him the first kicker to accomplish this feat in a single game in the NFL.

The 30-year-old also eclipsed Brett Maher‘s record of scoring two field goals from 60 yards or more in a single season. Aubrey’s field goal from 63 yards late in the third quarter was his third kick of over 60 yards made this season, topping Maher’s previous record. Aubrey’s other two successful attempts came in Week 2 against the New York Giants and in Week 7 against the Washington Commanders.

With that 63-yard kick, Aubrey extended his personal record of made field goals of 60 yards or more to six. This is also the most out of any kicker in NFL history.

Despite Aubrey’s historic numbers, the Cowboys’ offense couldn’t turn its possessions into touchdowns on Thursday. The team went 1/3 in the red zone while turning the ball over three times. The Lions, meanwhile, proved more effective in big moments, going 4-for-5 in the red zone and recording no turnovers.

After Thursday’s loss, Dallas remains on the outside looking into the playoff picture with a 6-6-1 record. According to NFL Next Gen Stats Playoff Probability, the Cowboys have an 8% chance of making the postseason.

The team returns home next Sunday night for Sunday Night Football against the Minnesota Vikings.
