Justin Gaethje was crowned the UFC’s interim lightweight champion over the weekend, and now seems to have a new challenger as Conor McGregor has come out and said that he wants to go up against Gaethje.
McGregor is 22-4 in his career and is a former two-weight champion in the UFC. He took to social media Monday to offer his thoughts on the 155-pound division of UFC and then demanded that he get a crack at Gaethje.
During Saturday’s UFC 249 event, Gaethje defeated Tony Ferguson in the fifth round by TKO. Gaethje, at least as of right now, is expected to take on undisputed champion Khabib Nurmagomdov(who defeated McGregor back in 2018) in a unification fight.
McGregor was originally against fighting without fans, which is what occurred during Saturday’s event, but in a Twitter post, McGregor said that he would be willing to fight Gaethje without fans.

There is some evidence of tension between McGregor and Gaethje. In September 2019, Gaethje called McGregor a “s–t human, father, and husband.” During his Twitter ‘rant’ on Monday, McGregor also called out Gaethje. “Justin, there is no danger in a man that hugs legs, we all now. Try and dance around what the real threat is here all you want. I am going to f—ing butcher you. Your teeth. I’m going to put them on a f—ing necklace. Speak on my skills as a father? You are f—ing dead.”
The 31-year-old McGregor has also called out Nate Diaz and signed the contract that would green-light a fight between the two of them, and UFC President Dana White has said that McGregor has expressed interest in fighting this summer.
