The Colorado Rockies are in last place in the NL West and have the worst record in baseball.

Colorado finished the 2024 season in last place in the NL West with a record of 61-101. Colorado made minimal moves in the offseason, signing second baseman Thairo Estrada and utility player Kyle Farmer.

The Rockies also made a trade with the Cleveland Guardians, trading outfielder Nolan Jones for utility player Tyler Freeman.

2025 has been a historically bad season for Colorado. The Rockies didn’t win a series until June, sweeping the Miami Marlins.

Colorado’s offense has been a difficult watch at times in 2025, led by Jordan Beck, Hunter Goodman, and Mickey Moniak.

The Rockies have the worst on-base percentage in baseball and are in the bottom three for strikeouts. The Rockies are also in the bottom 10 for batting average, and the bottom half of the league for slugging percentage and home runs.

Colorado’s pitching has been one of, if not the worst, units in baseball this season.

The Rockies have the worst ERA, walks and hits per inning pitched (WHIP), and batting average allowed. The Rockies also have the fewest strikeouts, the second-most home runs allowed, and the fifth-most walks.

To give Colorado some benefit, Coors Field has the highest elevation out of all major league stadiums, so the ball flies further. But, Colorado’s splits on the road are still at the bottom of the league.

At the trade deadline, the Rockies traded third baseman Ryan McMahon and relief pitcher Jake Bird to the New York Yankees for four prospects. The four prospects enter the Rockies’ farm system as top 30 prospects.

Colorado had the No. 4 overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, selecting Ethan Holliday from Stillwater High School in Oklahoma. Ethan’s father, Matt, was also drafted by the Rockies in 1998, and his brother Jackson is currently on the Baltimore Orioles.

While Colorado won’t be contending this season, trading veterans for prospects is a step in the right direction in hopes of putting together a competitive roster for the future.
