At some point, you started to feel bad for Clayton Kershaw. The ace pitcher has had one of the most tortured playoff careers in recent memory for such an elite player, culminating in a blown save in game five of the National League Finals against the Washington Nationals last year. While I wouldn’t say that he put those days behind him on Thursday, Kershaw did manage to show up in the postseason, which a monster game two against the Milwaukee Brewers. Kershaw pitched eight innings while allowing only three hits, no runs and striking out 13 batters. “This was a fun night for me,” said Kershaw, who displayed a rare smile on the mound. “Get the postseason off to a good start. It’s a good first step for sure.” This win advances them to the divisional round but does not know which team they will be facing yet.
On the other end of this game, this is the end of the Brewers season, who were visibly disappointed after the game. “Every time your season comes to an end, it’s a bummer,” said Christian Yelich, who was 0 for 4 with two strikeouts. “It’s a bummer because it’s never the same team the next year. We went through a lot as a group. I’m definitely proud of the guys.” While it is always disappointing to have your season ended, the Brewers did lose to the team with the best record in baseball, and with the expanded format, they were lucky to be playing in the post-season in the first place.
