Chiefs’ Frank Clark Criticizes 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo After Super Bowl Victory

Chiefs’ defensive end Frank Clark isn’t shy about commenting on opposing teams and was very critical on Jimmy Garoppolo’s performance in Super Bowl LIV after the Chiefs defeated the 49ers 31-20 Sunday.

“You paying the guy $140 million, $130 million, whatever he’s getting paid, man,” Clark told NBC Sports Bay Area “He’s gotta throw the ball. Obviously he didn’t do that. They threw for about 200 yards on checkdowns; that ain’t enough to win a game against us.”

Garoppolo had signed a lucrative five-year contract worth $137.5 million in 2018 but had a subpar game finishing 21-30 with 219 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. A big part of the 49ers’ game plan this postseason was the run game and that was apparent in the NFC Championship Game when Garoppolo only threw eight passes and 19 in the Divisional round against the Vikings. He had an opportunity to give the 49ers the lead on Sunday but overthrew Emmanuel Sanders who had broke away from defenders with just over two minutes left in the fourth quarter. The ball landed just ahead of his receiver in the endzone.

“We missed some shots tonight, some plays that we usually make,” Garoppolo said postgame. “It was a tough one. We got rolling on a right note and couldn’t finish off. Hell of a ride, but at the end of the day people just remember the wins and losses.”

Clark is known for being outspoken and didn’t hold back when asked about the Chiefs win over the Titans last week. “[The Titans] come in here, they say they’re gonna run the ballI know exactly what they were gonna do, you watching that film, you know what they’re going to do. The last two games, [Henry] had 200 yards each game, I knew damn well we weren’t gonna win the game if we let that happen. They come in here, call him the best rusher in the league. We sending his a– home early.”

Prior to Sunday, Clark told NFL Network, “They must not know who I am yet. They gonna find out sooner or later when I got that [Super Bowl] ring on my m———— finger.”

He was only Chiefs’ player to record a sack on Sunday.
