The NFL’s highly sought after Thursday Night Football will now be shared between CBS and NBC, the league announced in a statement on Monday.
The NFL will make $450 million from the deal, $225 million from each network. The haul is a 50% increase from the $300 million that CBS paid for this season’s slate of Thursday night games, all eight of which were simulcasted with the NFL Network. In the new deal, both CBS and NBC will each broadcast 5 games and all of the games will continue to be simulcasted on the NFL Network.
According to Variety, Thursday Night Football ranked 4th this season in cost per 30-second ad, which was $462,000. Only Sunday Night Football, Empire and The Walking Dead commanded more.
The NFL also said that it is, “in active discussions with prospective digital partners,” this would allow NFL games to be streamed online via digital media players, the league added, “A deal announcement is expected in the near future.”
