No further details about the deal have yet been released. Perkins, 33, has been in the NBA for 13 years and will reportedly play with Cleveland in the postseason. He averaged 8.7 points and 7.1 rebounds in 21.2 minutes per game in 27 contests with the Canton Charge (the Cavs’ G-League affiliate) this season.

The center hasn’t played in a regular-season NBA contest since he competed with the New Orleans Pelicans in 2015-2016, when he averaged just 2.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per night in 37 games.

Perkins was drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2003 as a first-round pick out of high school and was immediately traded to the Boston Celtics, with whom he played for eight seasons. He then spent four years with the Oklahoma City Thunder and was briefly with the Cavaliers as well.

Perkins recorded a career-high 10.1 points per game with the Celtics in 2009-10. He won an NBA championship with the team in 2008.

This is not the first time the Cavaliers have added a player to the roster just before the playoffs start. In 2016, the team signed guard Dahntay Jones at the end of the regular season and went on to win the national title.

Cleveland (50-31, fourth in Eastern Conference) is coming off a 123-109 victory over the Knicks in New York on Monday. Their final regular-season matchup will be a home game against the Knicks on Wednesday at 8pm EST.
