Former Penguin Billy Tibbetts Arrested Again As He Struggles To Stay Out Of Trouble

Former Pittsburgh Penguin Billy Tibbetts continues to get in legal trouble, being arrested again, which adds to his criminal history.

Tibbetts, 51, was arrested on Tuesday in Massachusetts for allegedly violating a protective order that ties back to a harassment claim.

A Massachusetts judge reportedly issued a warrant on Feb. 4, as Pennsylvania was among the neighboring states listed for extradition. His extradition hearing has been scheduled for March 25.

Tibbetts was arrested at a Red Roof Inn on Route 315, then arraigned and released on $25,000 bail.

The former winger has been in trouble with the law before, pleading guilty in 1994 to raping a 15-year-old girl when he was 17. A year later, he was arraigned for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He served 39 months in prison for violating his probation.

He was arrested again in 2007 following a high-speed car chase, which led to multiple charges.

Tibbetts was then arrested twice in 2019, spending jail time for harassing a Massachusetts police officer and then being booked for drug charges. According to police, he possessed a “small, white, rock-like substance believed to be crack cocaine.”

The former Penguin spent two separate seasons with the team, playing 62 games. He played only 82 career games from 2000 to 2003, the rest with the Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Rangers.
