A 21-year-old player for a junior team in the Canadian Hockey League was handcuffed on the ice and arrested after he got into a scuffle with the referee.
Olivier Marcotte, who plays for the Hockey-Experts from Sherbrooke, Quebec, fought with a game official during a recent game and reportedly spit in the linesman’s face, according to CBC News.
However, before Marcotte could throw a punch, he was pulled off the ice. Officials quickly sat on the player while uniformed police officers came onto the ice to handcuff him.
No charges had been filed against Marcotte, according to Sergeant Annie Thibodeau. He was released from police custody that same night.
