The 21-year-old Czech star is also receiving some form of a no-movement clause as part of the contract, according to several reports.

Pastrnak — who has played with the Bruins since being drafted as a first-round pick (25th overall) in 2014 — enjoyed a stellar campaign last season with 34 goals and 36 assists in 75 games, which made him the team’s second-leading scorer behind Brad Marchand. He played for the AHL’s Providence Bruins for two seasons (2014-2015, 2015-2016).

In his three-year NHL career, the 6-foot European star has 59 goals and 64 assists in 172 games.

The average annual value of Pastrnak’s deal ($6.67 million) makes him the third-highest-paid forward on the Bruins behind David Krejci and Patrice Bergeron, and slightly ahead of Marchand.

According to CSN New England’s Joe Haggerty, Pastrnak and the Bruins attempted to reach terms on a seven or eight-year contract, but they simply couldn’t work out the numbers.

Pastrnak, who is currently in the Czech Republic, will miss the first few days of training camp. He is expected to fly into Boston tomorrow and be back on the ice with his teammates by the weekend.
