ATLANTA, GA - JANUARY 4: Vince Carter #15 of the Atlanta Hawks calls out to teammates during the fourth quarter of a game against the Indiana Pacers at State Farm Arena on January 4, 2020 in Atlanta, Georgia.
In a tribute to one of the NBA’s most exciting players, the Brooklyn Nets have announced the retirement of Vince Carter’s No. 15 jersey. This decision comes as Carter prepares to be remembered in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame later this year. The Nets unveiled this gesture through a video announcement featuring former teammate Jason Kidd, whose own No. 5 jersey sits at the rafters of the Barclays Center.
Carter’s impact on the Nets franchise cannot be overstated. During his four and a half seasons with the team, while they were based in New Jersey, Carter excited fans with his performances, averaging an impressive 23.6 points per game.
His tenure saw him put his name into the franchise record books, holding the single-season scoring record with a staggering 2,070 points during the 2006-07 campaign. Carter’s legacy extends beyond scoring, as he ranks third in franchise history in total points and remains among the top ten in various statistical categories.
Carter’s influence, along with his individual accolades and statistical achievements, is appreciated for his on-court prowess and his presence in the league. As the only player in NBA history to compete in four different decades, Carter’s longevity is a testament to his unparalleled dedication and passion for the game.
