Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak is considering Robert Griffin III as a potential quarterback option, according to ESPN’s Jeff Legwold.
Griffin, 26, was released by the Washington Redskins earlier this month. Several other NFL teams are currently looking at the QB during this free agency season.
Griffin, No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 draft, did not play a single game for the Redskins last season after losing his job as a starter to backup QB Kirk Cousins. His rookie season was his best one: he threw for 3,200 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions. He was also named to the Pro Bowl in 2012.
“Whoever we bring in, it’s about competition. We’re not going to give anybody a job,” Kubiak said, according to the team’s website. The Broncos, defending Super Bowl Champions, lost Peyton Manning to retirement and Brock Osweiler to free agency this offseason.

Mark Sanchez, recently acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles for a conditional seventh-round draft pick, and 2015 seventh-round pick Trevor Siemian are the QBs currently on the Broncos’ roster.
After suffering a string of knee and ankle injuries, Griffin only managed to play 22 games combined in the following two seasons. In his career, Griffin has completed 64% of his passes, with 40 touchdowns, 23 interceptions, a 90.6 passer rating and 8,097 passing yards.
