Brock Osweiler To Start For Broncos Vs. Eagles

The inconsistent Denver Broncos are making a major change this week.

Denver Broncos roster news

The team revealed Wednesday that Brock Osweiler will replace Trevor Siemian at quarterback for Sunday’s matchup against the Eagles in Philadelphia.

The Broncos (3-4, 2nd in AFC West) have lost three straight games, so the move isn’t shocking. Coach Vance Joseph said last week’s brutal 29-19 loss to Kansas City — in which Denver turned the ball over five times — reinforced his decision.

Second-year QB Paxton Lynch, meanwhile, is rejoining the team’s practices after sitting out the beginning of the season with a shoulder injury.

Osweiler rejoined the Broncos in early September after failed stints with the Houston Texans and Cleveland Browns. The QB, who will be 27 later this month, was drafted by the Broncos as a second-round pick out of Arizona State in 2012.

Broncos general manager John Elway recently said that Osweiler needed some “football rehab.”

Joseph left open the possibility of putting Lynch in the lineup at some point as his shoulder improves and he gets more practice reps.

“He could be [in the mix]. Again, whatever’s best for your football team, we’re going to do,” Joseph said Tuesday. “Obviously, Paxton is still healing up. He’s getting better day to day, but it would be unfair to put Paxton out there right now. He hasn’t played since Week 3 of the preseason and he’s only practiced four days, on a short week. It wouldn’t be fair to our football team or to Paxton.”

Siemian is 29th in the NFL in passer rating (76.8) and has been sacked 25 times — tied for the second-highest total among the league’s starters. Denver has the league’s top defense.
