Brett Favre Must Return $828,000 He Received From Embezzlement Scheme

Pro Football Hall of Famer Brett Favre received $828,000 in welfare funds in early 2020. According to Shad White, the Mississippi State Auditor, he must now return all of it. The money may have been funded by the largest embezzlement scheme in Mississippi history.

Owners of two non-profit organizations have been indicted for the part they played in the scheme. The embezzlement charges have been brought on a state and federal level. Favre is not facing any criminal charges. However, if he does not return the money in 30 days, he and Favre Enterprises could face a civil lawsuit.

Favre received a letter from the Mississippi auditor’s office that explained that accepting money from the non-profit while knowing that the funds may have been illegal is an unlawful act.

Favre was supposed to speak in front of a non-profit called Families First For Mississippi, an organization involved in the scheme, in exchange for the money he received. Farve never actually spoke, and now he denies any knowledge that the funds were illegal.
