Brandon Spikes Charged With Highway Crash

Brandon Spikes has been charged with fleeing the scene of a crash, speeding, driving negligently and failing to stay in the marked lines, according to a statement from the Massachusetts state police.

Brandon Spikes Charged With Highway Crash

In the early hours of Saturday, the police found Brandon Spikes’ car damaged on the side of I-495 in Foxborough. When the accident happened, Mercedes’ onboard assistance service contacted Spikes, where he told them he hit a deer.

The police stated that they found no evidence of a deer being struck. Instead, they believe Spikes’ Mercedes rear-ended a family of three driving in a Murano and the linebacker fled the accident. The victims were taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Following the initial reports on Saturday, the Patriots did not waste any time before releasing the athlete. “I think we’ve always wanted to do what was best for our football team — both the short and the long-term,” Robert Kraft said Tuesday. “That’s how that decision was made.”

The linebacker has always been an individual surrounded by drama. Drafted by the Pats in 2010, a sexually explicit video of Spikes with a woman went viral during training camp. The NFL investigated it with the possibility of suspending the linebacker. Later that year, he would be suspended the final four games for violating the league’s substance policy, which was supposedly due to Spikes’ ADHD medication.

On top of this, he had a falling out with the Pats following the 2013 season: he was late to a meeting and, as a result, placed on the season ending IR. He would later sign with the Bills for 2014, before coming back to New England in 2015: he signed a one-year deal worth maximum $2 million with only $25,000 guaranteed.

In his short five-year career, Brandon Spikes had 340 combined tackles, six forced fumbles, two sacks and one interception.
