The Oakland A’s got a big victory on opening day, thanks to a walk-off single in the 11th inning that gave them a 6-5 home win over the Los Angeles Angels.
The four-hour contest ended when Marcus Semien dropped an RBI single off Noe Ramirez to drive in Boog Powell and secure the comeback win for Oakland.

The Angels’ Mike Trout went 0 for 6, something he had never done in 925 previous career games. His team failed to maintain leads of 4-0 and 5-4. Kole Calhoun, Zack Kozart and Albert Pujols all homered for the Angels, who also had a strong stretch of relief pitching.

“Tough loss,” Cozart said after producing three hits in his Angels’ debut. “You never want to play extra innings your first day and you don’t want to lose.”
Following an intentional walk and with left fielder Justin Upton having moved into the infield for additional defensive help, Semien smacked his single into a mostly-empty center field.
“I think people put so much into that opening day game when you have so many more,” Cozart said. “Obviously, you want to win. But we’ll come back [Friday] and be ready to play again.”
