Padres And A’s Complete Four-Player Trade Featuring Yonder Alonso And Drew Pomeranz
The Oakland A’s and the San Diego Padres completed a four-player trade on Wednesday afternoon. Yonder Alonso and Marc Rzepczynski will join will join Oakland while Drew Pomeranz and minor-leaguer Jose Torres head the other way.
For both teams, the deal focuses on one of the two players. The Athletics will be hoping a change of scenery does Alonso good. Despite being a corner infielder, he only .282 with five homers and 31 RBIs last season.
On the other side of the deal, Pomeranz is a former first round draft pick who has struggled with injuries. In Oakland, he was able to establish himself as both a starter and reliever and was finally beginning to live up to his potential.
Rzepczynski is a journeyman reliever and Torres is a minor leaguer, so the deal will boil down to Alonso for Pomeranz; if the change of scenery does both players good, the deal could be a win-win for both sides.
