Bears TE Zach Miller Undergoing Emergency Surgery On Leg After Dislocated Knee

The Chicago Bears have lost an offensive player.

Tight end Zach Miller underwent emergency surgery on his left leg Sunday night.

Miller, 33, dislocated his knee while catching an over-the-shoulder touchdown pass from rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky in the third quarter of the Bears’ 20-12 road loss to the New Orleans Saints. He was carted off the field after his leg bent awkwardly underneath him.

Vascular surgeons were called in to repair Miller’s leg, which includes grafting tissue from the other leg to fix the damaged artery, per sources.

Bears coach John Fox said Sunday that the team’s “thoughts and prayers are with him” after revealing that the veteran tight end would spend the night in the hospital.

Officials later ruled that Miller did not maintain possession of the ball, negating a potential touchdown catch.

The Bears (3-5, 4th in NFC North) next host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Miller, an eight-year veteran who is in his fourth season with the Bears, signed a two-year extension with the Bears in March 2016. He suffered a broken foot late in the 2016 season. His season could be over following Sunday’s injury, which appears to be much more severe than a standard dislocation.
