Brock Faber Surgery ‘Successful’ After Fracturing Skull In Preseason Game
Minnesota Wild defenseman Brock Faber was hit by a shot in Friday’s preseason game against the Dallas Stars, leaving him with a fractured skull that required surgery.
Faber underwent the surgery on Sunday, and General Manager Bill Guerin said that it was successful and that he is doing well.
He would skate off the ice on his own power after taking the puck to his head, and would even finish the second period of the game before not returning for the third.
Faber is a key player for the Wild, and his impact on the ice will be missed. Anything regarding the head has to be taken seriously and with caution, which the Wild are expected to do. He is expected to make a full recovery, but Guerin did not release a timetable or even hint at a return, meaning he is out indefinitely, which is a huge loss for the hockey club.

The Wild have been pestered by injuries to their star players in recent years, and Faber was their main man at the blue line before they acquired Quinn Hughes, who is one of the top two or three defensemen in the league.
The Hughes-Faber pairing was a huge weapon for Minnesota, and even though the injury should not keep him out for the bulk of the season like some of the injuries to Kirill Kaprisov and Joel Eriksson Ek in the past few years, it will be a huge loss for Minnesota.
The Wild are yet again expected to be a contender to win the Stanley Cup this year, especially if their team can stay healthy. The loss of Faber early is not the start they were looking for, but at least it came at a time of the year when he can take the time needed to recover and return when the season starts to ramp up, barring any setbacks.
The Wild begin their season Thursday against the Nashville Predators.
