Jared Young Doing ‘As Good As Expected’ After Hospitalized Following Knee-To-Head Collision

New York Mets first baseman Jared Young has been hospitalized following a knee-to-head collision with pitcher Nolan McLean while both were heading to first base to cover a dribbler by Phillies outfielder Justin Crawford.

Interim manager Andy Green said Young is doing “as good as expected or we could have hoped for” before Friday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The slow roller from Crawford resulted in a terrifying collision where McLean’s knee ran into Young’s head after a slight trip and an attempted avoidance by the first baseman.

Young fell to the dirt and looked motionless; players gathered around on their knees for Young.

Players expressed fear, as Young seemed completely out of it after the collision.

According to Green, Young had a CT scan, and it came back negative. He also said that he has concussion symptoms, which is, at this point, the expected diagnosis that will come from this.

If Young misses the rest of the season, as the team is eliminated from the playoffs, a second chance could open up for 2024 breakout star Mark Vientos, who has been a shell of himself lately. Vientos has battled injuries lately, but when healthy, he is playing well below his 2024 level, hitting just .233 last year and hitting 17 home runs, 10 shy of his 2024 total.

The good news for Mets fans, who have shared their disinterest on social media in a return from Vientos, is that Young has been able to use all of his extremities, according to the manager. The only reasons, for now, we wouldn’t see Young for the rest of the season are that, one, the season is almost over, and two, the season is already over for the Mets’ playoff hopes. There is no reason to believe that Young wouldn’t be good to go for next season, which is a great scenario following the scary incident.
