Charles Barkley Says He ‘Hopes’ He ‘Gets Fired’ For Joke About Cardi B’s Cleavage During NBA Finals
Charles Barkley found himself at the center of controversy once again after comments he made about Cardi B’s halftime performance during Game 3 of the NBA Finals, which sparked a wide reaction across social media.
The moment occurred during the halftime show between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden. Cardi B performed several of her biggest hits in front of a celebrity-filled crowd. During the broadcast, Barkley and the Inside the NBA crew discussed the performance, which quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the night.
As footage of Cardi B aired, TNT’s Ernie Johnson joked that the broadcast crew had been competing with the rapper for viewers’ attention. Barkley then made a comment about Cardi B’s appearance, drawing laughter from Draymond Green and Shaquille O’Neal.
“I don’t know if those Bs. Those might be Cardi Ds. I’m pretty sure those aren’t Bs. She’s got the wrong initials,” Barkley said, clearly referring to the rapper’s cleavage.
The exchange quickly spread across social media.
The former NBA MVP joked about Cardi B’s appearance, making comments that many viewers found inappropriate. Draymond Green and Shaquille O’Neal were laughing, but online reactions were divided. Some fans criticized Barkley for objectifying a Grammy-winning artist on television, while others defended him for his humor.
Barkley has built a reputation during his broadcasting career for making controversial statements, including past comments about women in San Antonio and Galveston, Texas. He is known for speaking without a filter, frequently creating viral moments both on and off the air.
The former NBA star joked about the incident on The Dan Patrick Show. “I’m hoping they fire me,” he said. “I got six or seven years left on my contract that they know I’ve got no chance of doing. I would love for them to fire me and have to pay me for the next six or seven years.”
