Brazilian superstar Neymar da Silva is eyeing a move to the MLS, following the footsteps of his former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi.

FC Cincinnati is eyeing the Brazilian, having begun contract negotiations with his team, which will create a way for a possible move after his contract with Santos ends in December 2026.

Cincinnati is still figuring out the finances it would need to pull off a move like this and bring Neymar to the United States, but they do believe they have the modern facilities and financial strength to attract big stars like Neymar.

There is still a major hurdle for this move to come to fruition: the “Designated Player” category, in which Cincinnati has no open slots, so they cannot pay salaries outside the league’s salary cap.

The players who currently hold those spots are Kevin Denkey, Miles Robinson and Evander, which puts Cincinnati in a tough spot. However, Denkey is receiving attention from European clubs for a potential move, which would allow the club to sell him and open up a spot, paving the way for a potential Neymar move.

Neymar has received MLS interest before; in 2025, the Chicago Fire were having serious conversations with the star footballer after he left Al Hilal, but he ultimately ended up joining Santos.

If he moves to the MLS, Neymar would join several star players who have come over to the U.S., including French star Antoine Griezmann and Messi. Griezmann is expected to join Orlando City SC next summer.

Neymar is currently focused on staying fit and healthy for the World Cup, hoping to bring the Cup back to Brazil.
