Ravens’ Mark Andrews Saves A Woman’s Life On A Southwest Flight

Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews saved a young woman’s life on a Southwest Airlines flight, according to a statement put out by the Ravens’ social media accounts.
On February 1, Andrew Springs, an X user, posted a thread detailing Andrews’ response to a medical emergency. According to Springs, on his flight from Baltimore to Phoenix, a woman had a “mid-flight medical emergency.” With the woman losing her pulse and decreasing blood pressure, Andrews suggested using his diabetes testing kit to treat the woman. Andrews is a Type 1 diabetic himself.
Sprin, who is from Baltimore, said “medical professionals” on the flight stabilized the woman with Andrews’ instruction.
The Ravens, a few hours after the incident, released an official statement from Andrews. The top tight end wrote, “In addition to the fast-acting flight attendants, the real heroes are the nurse and doctor who also happened to be on the plane. Thankfully they were able to provide the woman the quick assistance she needed.”
Later on February 1, WBAL News Radio interviewed Springs on a Zoom call. He reflected on Andrews’ speaking up on the flight and making his recommendation to help the woman.
“Mark has been an unsung hero since he was drafted to the Ravens,” Springs said. “He is not about me, he is about we. And I think anyone who saw him at that moment knew exactly what he was going to do- which is doing the right thing…”
The star tight end played in the AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs on January 28. It was his first game since he injured his left ankle injury he suffered on November 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Despite Andrews’ return, the Ravens fell in Baltimore to the Chiefs 17-10, missing out on an opportunity to play in the Super Bowl. He recorded two receptions for 15 yards in the loss.
