Urban Meyers and the Jacksonville Jaguars have finalized a deal to make Meyer the team’s new head coach – and now he’s starting to fill out his team. On Friday, he added Darrell Bevell as offensive coordinator.

Meyer met with Jaguars’ owner Shad Khan on Khan’s boat. Proceeding the meeting, it was reported that the college football coach was the frontrunner to become the next head coach in Jacksonville.

As Jaguars’ coach, Meyer is sharing a division with Mike Vrabel, who is the head coach of the Tennessee Titans. Vrabel previously served on Meyer’s staff when he was at Ohio State from 2011-2013. Vrabel often credited Meyer for his successes as a coach, following a 14-year career in the NFL.

Vrabel is glad Meyer gave him a second chance after their initial interviews were “brutal” and “awful.”

“I called him before every interview I’ve ever gone into,” Vrabel said of Meyer in 2018, via Eleven Warriors. “I said, ‘No interview will ever be worse than that one,’ and I realized that you better be prepared and you better not take things for granted. So I appreciate that, and that’s one of the reasons that’s helped me get to where I am today.”

Though they finished 2020 with a 1-15 record, the Jaguars have a lot Meyer can build upon. For starters, the Jaguars have the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. Their current roster includes promising players such as running back James Robinson, receivers Laviska Shanault Jr., D.J. Clark and others.
