Noah Syndergaard Becomes Mets Youngest Pitcher For All-Star Selection Since 1988
Noah Syndergaard will be the youngest Mets pitcher selected to the All-Star game since Dwight Gooden in 1988. Gooden was 23 years old, and it was his fourth (and final) selection as an All-Star.
In 1986 Gooden was 21 years old and became the youngest starting pitcher in an All-Star game.
According to espn.go.com, Syndergaard was training and hoping for an All-Star appearance in the off-season. “I watched Jacob [deGrom] compete in it last year and I saw how tremendous he did and I wanted a piece of the action,” Syndergaard said. He doesn’t have an overwhelming sense of pride after reaching this milestone at such a young age, he said. However, in only his second year in the Major Leagues it would seem to be quite the accomplishment.

Syndergaard is included in the starters for the pitchers according to USA Today, but it has yet to be determined if he will be the starting pitcher.
The American League has won the last three All-Star games and will be looking for the fourth win in a row. The game is set for July 12 8:00 pm EST on FOX.
