LSU Quarterback Joe Burrow Wins 2019 Heisman Trophy
The 2019 Heisman Trophy was awarded last night to the overwhelming favorite Louisiana State University quarterback Joe Burrow. The fifth-year senior is the second LSU player in school history to win the Heisman, the first being running back Billy Cannon in 1959.
The trophy is awarded to the “most outstanding football player in the United States.”
Burrow led the nation with 48 touchdown passes and set an NCAA record in completion percentage (77.9). He set the record as the first player in SEC history to throw for more than 4,000 yards and 40 touchdown passes in a single season.
The transfer out of Ohio State is in his second season with LSU, who is 13-0 this season and the top seed in the 2019 College Football Playoffs.

“My journey, I wouldn’t have traded it for anything in the world,” Burrow said.
He expressed how much head coach Ed Orgeron meant to him. “Can you imagine a guy like Coach O, giving me the keys to his football program? He just means so much to me and my family…and to LSU. I sure hope they give him a lifetime contract, because he deserves it.”
Orgeron responded, “It goes to show the kind of year he’s had. He had a great year and I think the whole country noticed it. So we’re very proud that he won by such a wide margin.”

“This is what kids dream of doing. I envisioned myself on that stage and being the quarterback of the No. 1 team in the country playing for the national championship”, Burrow said. “So this entire season has been a dream come true for me.”
LSU will battle Oklahoma in the Peach Bowl for a shot at the national title on December 28 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
