Memorial Tournament winner William McGirt and Puerto Rico Open champion Tony Finau were among six golfers added to the U.S. Open on Monday.

Fairmont’s William McGirt Officially Added To U.S. Open Field

The USGA set aside six spots for anyone who reached the top 60 in the world ranking Monday.

McGirt, a Fairmont, North Carolina native, was the only one at No. 44 because of his victory two weeks ago at the Memorial.

Finau was the first alternate from the Springfield, Ohio, sectional, while Daniel Summerhays was first alternate from the larger Ohio section. The others were Zach Edmondson (Florida sectional), Kevin Foley (New Jersey) and Mike Van Sickle (Maryland), the son of Sports Illustrated golf writer Gary Van Sickle.

Besides a U.S. Open Berth, McGirt’s Memorial victory in Dublin, Ohio last weekend earned him a three-year exemption on the PGA Tour, a spot in the PGA Championship in August and his first trip to the Masters next spring.

The US Open will be held at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania from June 16-19.
